Charise and the Hawk

Last night, we had a terrific storm, so I stayed at home and finished this latest collage.

Charise is a friend of mine who works at the Library. She has SUCH a great profile that she was perfect for a silouette collage. At first, I tried to do it with photos, like all my other pieces, but it wasn't working.

Then I got the idea for the fabric braids - after all, I work with fabric constantly! The background has been needle felt punched, complete with a subtle shadow of a red tailed hawk in the upper left.
This was one of those pieces that happens when the time is right. Once I got started, everything fell into place smoothly, and I am delighted with the result!
It will eventually be bordered with something, but the braids will hang outside the border - loose and free and wild!

Picasa

I am putting photos out on the web, under a Picasa account.

The address is http://picasaweb.google.com/Jo.Mortland/Quilts

There are only a few photos right now, but there will be more soon. This will be a great way to back up my portofolio - online instead of on disks.

Del.icio.us

Here is the web site for my Delicious Bookmarks:

This application has been less than intuituve - annoying, in fact.

However, the uses for it seem to be limitless, and I'm sure I'll figure out how to use it well.

Three Women Wearing the Same Dress

This past weekend, my very good friends, Pam from Wisconsin and Sherry from Michigan, came for a visit. Pam found a great formal dress at the resale shop, and it looked so good on each of us that we decided to photograph ourselves. It was a beautiful day, and we had snitched a deep magenta peony as our prop. Voila!
The Aran shawl was a gift from Jim to Pam, hand knitted, but we could hardly get it away from Sherry!

Mysterious Newly Created Fiber Item

After having accomplished my other sewing goals (see previous post), this is what evolved next!

What could it be?

Anthuriello

This past holiday weekend, I was obsessed with sewing! I had set myself three goals, met those, and went on to finish a number of other projects. This one, Anthuriello, was originally sewn together nearly a year ago, and the center part was quilted with all manner of organic leaves and shapes. But the finishing touches were only done yesterday. The title refers to the wavy pattern, Bargello, and the appliqued flower, Anthurium. The piece is 60" wide, and the best work I've done so far.

Einstein on Dancing

I just found this blurb from Einstein. He has gone up even further in my estimation, if such a thing is possible.

We dance for laughter, we dance for tears,
we dance for madness, we dance for fears,
we dance for hopes, we dance for screams.
We are the dancers, we create the dreams.

I'd like to you meet my daughter...

Kitty is one of the best people I know. Smart, beautiful, thoughtful, fun, creative, mature, and caring. She sings! She dances! She acts and authors plays! She sews! And she writes quite well.

She sees us as similar to the Gilmore Girls, although we can't talk that fast. I'm honored to have her for a daughter.

Here is a link to Kitty's blog. A teacher once said to her "I love your indignant mind!"

The Universe Comes Through

It never fails. I ask, and I receive.

Several years ago, there was a brainstorming team here in the Library. Our goal was to find ways to advertise and promote the Library.

It is difficult to get any number of people together at any one time these days, so this would be a perfect application for blogging at my job. Brainstorming!

We could use some new promotional ideas, and the goal would be to find some that cost nothing.

Poifect!

Here I am.

Posting, posting

Since this is brand new to me, it is unclear at this time how my job will be enhanced by blogging. Generally in life, I have found that when I want something, I "put it out to the universe", and am inundated with possibilities!

So -

Dear Universe,

I have a new tool to use at work. Blogging. Please send fun and creative ideas for implementation.
